TCP PRESCRIPTIONS POLICY

In an effort to be efficient, cost effective, and in compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, Total Care Pediatrics will utilize electronic prescribing when appropriate. We may choose to give you a paper copy of your prescription as well when required by law or when your pharmacy of choice has a history of not receiving electronic prescriptions. Some prescriptions for chronic conditions such as ADHD/ADD, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol and/or elevated lipids,asthma etc will require an in person visit at least every three (3) months. Prescriptions for ADD/ADHD will be prescribed in accordance with Georgia Law.A patient have to be seen every month when adjusting or starting medications. Once on a stable dose, three (3) months will be prescribed at a time. If you lose one of the written prescriptions, you will be required to come in and pick up the prescriptions monthly. These medication prescriptions can not be phoned into the pharmacy.

REFILLS:

It is the policy of Total Care Pediatrics that you allow at least 24 hours and one (1) business day for medication refills. This means that refill requests left after business hours or Friday and weekends will require more time to address.

When requesting medication refills please provide the following information: Child’s name, date of birth, medication name, medication strength or concentration, dose, pharmacy name and phone/fax number. Please also leave instructions about whether you will be picking up the prescription or if it is be phoned/faxed into your pharmacy.

EMERGENCY DOSES:

If your child runs out of medication prior to receiving a prescription refill, A pharmacist in the State of Georgia can dispense emergency medications at their discretion. Most pharmacies, such as Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, and Publix have policies that require several days worth be dispensed. If your request is refused, please politely ask to speak to corporate or a manager. Your insurance does not have to pay for this emergency refill. You are responsible for paying the total cost of the emergency days of medication dispensed.

On a case by case basis, Total Care pediatrics will consider calling in a few days (maximum of five (5)) of emergency prescription medication refills, where allowed by law, to allow time for you to bring your child into the office for a full prescription. Under no circumstances will a second consecutive emergency refill be contemplated. Total Care Pediatrics will require that the child be seen prior to another prescription.
