Melvin G. Perry Jr., MD
Dr. Perry was born in Cleveland, OH to his parents Melvin Perry Sr. and Elnora Perry. He was raised in Kentwood, LA, where he decided to become a pediatrician at 7 years old. The primary motive behind his desire to become a physician was his father’s death, when he was 4 years old, due to a car accident caused by a drunk driver.
Dr. Perry was the first member of his mother’s family and third member of his father’s family to graduate from college. Dr. Perry is the first member of either side of his family to continue education past college and was the first Doctor in his family.
Dr. Perry is an alumnus of Louisiana State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology-Pre-Med with honors. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans.
Dr. Perry completed his residency in general pediatrics at Louisiana State University School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital in New Orleans. He then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. Dr. Perry is dual board certified in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Perry has an interest in healthcare disparities, quality, and care for under represented and under served communities. Dr. Perry has authored and co- authored articles on diversity in healthcare.
In his spare time, Dr. Perry is an avid traveler, having visited at least 60 countries to date. He is becoming an avid cycler. Dr. Perry enjoys tennis, reading, and is a huge foodie, especially sweets. Dr. Perry has maintained a residence in Mableton, Cobb County Georgia for 19 years.
